New Tri Bike Design starts with a Size-Cycle fitting for Ironman Athlete.
Vin is a seasoned triathlete who has completed triathlons at every distance including multiple full ironman events. He contacted us late last summer to schedule a fitting to see if we could optimize his tri bike fit. He also wanted to check if his position was contributing to the back pain he was experiencing when riding long distances.
We found that Vin’s existing tri bike was not going to allow him to achieve the proper position. The top tube was too long and the head tube was too short. Making it worse were his crank arms were too long. Vin had plans to see a physical therapist and start a stretching a core strengthening program. He didn’t want us to determine a frame size/design until he had his physical therapy addressed. We agreed that that was a prudent plan. Since Vin was not ready to purchase a new bike or cranks we did what we could to fix his position within the limits of his bike.
After months of stretching and core strengthening Vin was ready for a fitting to determine his ideal position for a new bike. We put Vin on our Serotta size cycle. The size cycle allowed us to work through multiple crank arm lengths, seat tube angles, handlebar positions, etc. We worked to find a postion that would work for the ironman and half-ironman events Vin competes in. We will be using the measurements from the size-cyle to design a new custom frame with Vin. We’ll be posting updates and photos on Vin’s new bike when they’re ready.
